Dr. Frederick Cerise, president and CEO of Parkland Health and Hospital Systems, recently published a fascinating article in the Harvard Business Review. Dr. Cerise argues that safety net organizations, like Parkland, are driven less by market forces, and more by patient and community needs. In effect, innovation is driven by high value utilization of resources. Dr. Cerise goes on the cite some of the amazing clinical programs started at Parkland including tele-dermatology , Dr. Bhavan’s outpatient antibiotic program and our multidisciplinary diabetes team. This article is definitely worth the read and reminds us what a special institution Parkland is.
