Nivi Arora published an article today in the Journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. The paper titled ”Race- and Sex-Based Disparities in the Therapy and Outcomes of Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Anus” discovered that black patients and men had the lowest rates of receipt of radiation therapy, and lowest survival rates, among patients with locoregional SCC of the anus.
This article has received a lot of press attention.
Using SEER data from 2000 – 2012, the team including Arjun Gupta and primary mentor Dr. Muhammad S. Beg studied a cohort of more than 7,800 patients with localized SCC of the anus. White women lived 80% longer than black men with the same disease. Overall survival for white women was 148 months, followed by black women at 146 months, white men at 111 months, and black men at 82 months.
Congratulations Nivi! Keep them coming…
