Lauren publishes in Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes

Lauren Smith, PGY3, published this fantastic article titled, ”Acute Myocardial Infarction Readmission Risk Prediction Models: A Systematic Review of Model Performance” in Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes.

Lauren and team, including co-authors Dr. Makam, recent UTSWIM grad Doug Darden, Helen Mayo, Dr. Das, Dr. Halm and primary mentor Dr. Oanh K. Nguyen conclude that current Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI)-specific readmission risk prediction models have modest predictive ability and uncertain generalizability given methodological limitations. They report that no existing models provide actionable information in real time to enable early identification and risk-stratification of patients with AMI before hospital discharge, a functionality needed to optimize the potential effectiveness of readmission reduction interventions.

Great job, Lauren and team, and thank you to all the faculty and especially Dr. Nguyen for the mentorship.
